Her room was next to the family chapel, and as she showed great interest and a lively, intelligent mind, the priest taught her about the Catholic faith. In a short time she had memorized all 150 psalms and prayed them daily. In 1303 her parents took her to a shrine in Castello where miracles had taken place, in the hopes of a cure. Margaret was not cured, and her parents abandoned her there. She took to begging in the streets, and the amazing thing is that she did not exhibit any bitterness towards her parents or her plight of homelessness. Eventually, a kind family took her in, and she was able to join the Dominican third order. She taught children their prayers and about the faith, and was beloved by the whole town for her cheerfulness and loving care of the homeless, prisoners, the poor and other outcasts. Miracles occurred while she was alive, and when she died at the age of 33, the people proclaimed her a saint. She was beatified in 1609 but it was not until April of 2021 that she was officially canonized. She is the patron saint of pro-life causes and disabled people and blind people. The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although they are not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint or Catholic devotion.
