Description: Up for auction is this Springville, New York, Charter #6330, $20.00 1929 Type-1 Small Size National, Fr. #1802-1, with treasury signatures of Edward E. Jones as Register of the Treasury and Walter O. Woods as Treasurer of The United States. The cashier of this bank is O.H. Stearns and the President of the bank is A.L. Neubach. This bank chartered on July 5, 1902 as “The Citizens National Bank of Springville, New York”. The bank issued 69,324 small size Nationals, from 1929 thru May of 1935 when F.D.R. shut down the National Currency system. Springville had a total of two Currency issuing National Banks. One of those banks failed in 1896! This was the only other bank in town, it issued both large and small size National Banknotes. If you are looking for a small size National from Springville, NY this is your only option. The note is had good margins all around on both sides of the note. There is some light dirt and soil on the note from years of circulation, but there is still a respectable amount of remaining brightness to the note. I do not see any rips, tears, splits or pinholes in the note, just good honest wear from being in circulation. I would grade this note as a solid Very Fine. Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself before bidding. The Kelly Census shows 32 small size notes reported on this bank. There are 6 - $5.00 Type-1’s, 8 - $10.00 Type-1’s, 10 - $20.00 Type-1’s, 5 - $5.00 Type - 2’s, 2- $10.00 Type-2’s and 1 - $20.00 Type-2. This note is new to the census, the new owner can report this note, if they so choose. This note would make a fine addition to any New York State banknote collection.
