Description: Smoky Quartz, Lake George/Crystal Peak Area Pikes Peak Batholith, Park County, CO This is a gorgeous, water-clear and perfectly terminated smoky quartz crystal from the famous Lake George/Crystal Peak pegmatite deposits of Park County, Colorado, part of the Pike’s Peak batholith. As an added bonus, a smattering of microcrystalline Goethite adorns a few of the glassy crystal faces, as seen in the textbook termination of the last image. Edgework is sharp all around. Pegmatite deposits of smoky quartz, Amazonite, Microcline, and a rare form of Goethite (α-Fe3+O(OH)) from this area are considered world-class. When we prospected there in the summer of 2024, virtually every last square inch of the area was claimed. The once-accessible Crystal Peak area has now also been closed to public collecting by the USFS, thanks to widespread disturbance of the delicate habitat on account of unauthorized mechanical excavating. New material is hard to come by and exorbitantly priced due to the cost of extraction. 36 x 6 x 6 mm. REF: PAL-24121201
