Description: First edition fine/near fine hardback copy - Sled Driver - Flying the World's Fastest Jet by Brian Shul In the post war era two legendary aircraft captured more imaginations and fanatical followers than any other. One is Concorde and the second is the SR-71 Blackbird. This book describes one man’s love affair with flying the fastest aircraft on earth….The Blackbird. This book should not be confused with the many generic publications that plot elaborate stories about the design and making of the SR-71, this book isn’t a technical digest of the many intriguing facts and figures about the plane and most importantly it avoids distracting the reader or attempting to sensationalise or speculate on the potential secrets surrounding the aircraft. Instead, this book is one man's intimate view of what it was like to fly the world's fastest jet. ... This book is a love story, our pilot describes how he couldn’t master this incredible aircraft without genuinely loving it. Brian Shul was an American pilot and photographer. A Vietnam War-era attack pilot and a major in the United States Air Force (USAF), he flew 212 combat missions and was shot down near the end of the war. He was so badly burned that he was given next to no chance to live. Surviving, he returned to full flight status, flying the SR-71 Blackbird. Major Shul completed a 20-year career in the Air Force. This pristine copy includes its original dust cover, 151 pages including spectacular colour photographs throughout. A must have for serious fans of this incredible aircraft. The other items in our photographs are not included. This is a well cared for previously owned copy. The book shown in our images is the book you will receive.
