ARMIES, 1775., which is the date that George Washington was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, June 15, 1775 to be precise. “RE. 1783,” the year Washington retired from the position. “PRES. U.S. AM. ’89. R. ’96.” which were the years Washington was President of the United States, and “GEN. ARM. U.S. AM. .’98. After serving as the first President of the United States, Washington was named “General of the U.S. Army. Finally, the words “OB. D. 15. .’99.” the date of his death, December 15, 1799.
