Description: The Sikorsky HH-60D NIGHT HAWK (modified from the original UH-60A Black Hawk) is a four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft, and modified specifically for USAF search and rescue operations. The original UH-60A entered service with the U.S. Army in 1979, to replace the Bell UH-1 Iroquois as the Army's tactical transport helicopter. This was followed by the fielding of electronic warfare and special operations variants of the Black Hawk. Modified versions have also been developed for the U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Specifically to this version, the US Air Force modified this unit for combat search and rescue, and designated it as HH-60D, called it NIGHT HAWK, as it is used often at night for rescue and exfiltration operations. The HH-60D version has been exported to several nations. They have served in combat during conflicts in Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Somalia, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and other areas in the Middle East.
