Description: About the Sherline 4″ CNC ready Rotary Table To work in a Manual more you will need to install a stepper motor. A rotary table used in conjunction with a mill allows a machinist to produce virtually any part they can design. Sherline’s rotary table is a precision piece of equipment that has been designed to work with their vertical milling machines, however, it can be used on any mill whenever the small 4-inch size would be an advantage. The only limits are size, not complexity. The table is 2″ high and 4″ (100mm) in diameter. The main components have been machined from solid bar stock steel, and the complete unit weighs seven pounds. The table has been engraved with a laser, giving sharp and precise lines every 5°, numbered every 15°. These lines are calibrated with the 72-tooth worm gear that is driven by the handwheel. The handwheel is divided into 50 parts, making each line on the handwheel 1/10°. This allows a circle to be divided into 3600 increments without interpolation. Seventy-two revolutions of the handwheel rotate the table one revolution. NOTE: We are stating the following weight limits for our rotary tables for continual use. Horizontal orientation—50 lbs.Vertical orientation—30 lbs.Vertical rotational torque—6 foot/lbs. (meaning it can lift a 6 lb. weight when suspended 12″ away from the center of the rotary table) The rotary tables can hold more weight when they are not under a continuous load. About the Right Angle Attachment The rotary table is made even more versatile with the addition of the right angle attachment. This part has been designed to accurately align the rotary table in a vertical position while still maintaining rigidity. The rotary table is often used in the vertical position for holding an arbor when doing gear cutting or when drilling holes around the outside of a part. About the 1040 3 Jaws Chuck This larger chuck takes up no more center-to-center space than the 2.5″ chuck, but it will hold larger work. It has a clamping range of from 3/32″ (2 mm) up to 1-1/2″ (38 mm) diameter with the jaws in the normal position. With the jaws in the reversed position, work up to 2-3/4″ (70 mm) can be gripped. The hole through the chuck is .687″ (17 mm). Rotating the knurled ring closes all three jaws simultaneously to quickly grip round or hexagonal stock. Tommy bars (provided) are used in the holes in the side to tighten and loosen the chuck for more leverage. The chuck has a 3/4-16 thread to fit Sherline’s spindle. About the 1076 Chuck This chuck combines the ease-of-use advantages of the 3-jaw chuck with some of the advantages of a 4-jaw chuck. It will automatically center square or round stock. (The stock must be accurately shaped for all four jaws to grip.) It will also grip thin-wall tubing in four places rather than three, which spreads out the load and allows more grip without crushing the tubing. Turning the knurled portion of the outer diameter of the chuck scrolls all four jaws in unison. Included with the chuck are two Tommy bars for tightening and loosening the chuck. Centering accuracy on self-centering chucks is to within a few thousandths of an inch. If perfect centering accuracy is required, see the section on 4-jaw independent jaw chucks. This chuck will hold parts from 3/32″ in diameter up to 1-1/2″ with jaws in the normal position and up to 2-3/4″ with the jaws reversed. About the adjustable right angle tailstock The adjustable right angle tailstock supports the end of long stock held in the rotary table when it is in the vertical position. This allows you to accurately rotate a part between centers for milling or drilling operations. Because of “tolerance buildup” in the various parts used to place the rotary table in the 90° position, it is not possible to build a tailstock that would come out exactly on center each time. By using a split base design with slightly oversize holes, the height of the tailstock center is adjustable slightly. Once set to exactly match your rotary table/right angle attachment combination, it should not need to be readjusted.
