Description: These vintage pocket play books are a great addition to any William Shakespeare collection. Originals published in Philadelphia by David McKay. They are 5½” X 4” and ½” thick. This is a neat set of books. I could not find any printed copyright dates within the books but the original owners name (Mary H. Broadbelt) is written in each book with the date of May 27, 1904. Each of the books have personal notations written throughout (some more than others). 3 of the 4 include the original bookmark ribbon (King Henry V ribbon is missing). They are in good condition considering their age. Lot includes all 4 books King Henry IV part 1 (123 pages)King Henry IV part 2 (121 pages)Julius Caesar (103 pages) King Henry V (126 pages) Exciting to think of the possible history behind these books - Who was Mary Broadbelt? What was she like? Were the plays she must have been in good? And the most fun question I ask myself is – What would Mary think if I were able to go back in time and tell her these books will be selling on what’s called the “internet” - one hundred and twenty years from now!
