Seven Antique American Folding Pocket Knives, Parts Repair Study

Description: Listed here are seven old American made pocket knives. A couple may pass as light duty users, but because of the issues listed below we are selling them as parts, repair or study. With the exception of one, they all have salvageable carbon steel blades. The lot includes: Made in USA Jack with jigged bone covers- Neither blade has any snap. Both show some wobble. They have been tipped or chipped with some grinding. Both appear to be salvageable. The handle is excellent with no cracks or scratching worth mentioning. Landers, Fry and Clark swell end jack with black composite stag covers- Both blades show no snap and are either heavily worn or are broken. Aside from pocket wear and a few scratches, the handle is good with no cracks or other damage. CAR-VAN, SP Canton, OH, Advertising Pen Knife, Albert Bearing Company, Seasons’s Greetings, 1929, F. Purcell- Blades show moderate wear and are tight with good snap. Handle shows center pin crack on pile side, and some darkening along edges. Some indication of off gassing to top of main blade. Shell handle jack- Main blade shows heavy wear, secondary is nearly full. Both are tight, but have no snap. Handle has some loss to covering on both sides. No evidence of off gassing. Thorton serpentine jack- Main blade appears nearly full with a heavy patina and some light putting. Secondary is about 90% full, is patinated, shows scratching and pitting. Both have some snap and just noticeable play when open. Oil may improve snap. Handle covers have darkened, showing evidence of off gassing. Xcelit, USA Electricians-Main is about 70% full with chipping to edge. It is has snap, but shows play when open. Wire stripper appears nearly full, show some snap, some play, areas of rust and pitting, lock engages. handle shows some scratches on the mark side. It is otherwise good. Bail is secure with good action. Ulster 98 senior stock knife with jigged plastic handle- All blades appear to be nearly full with area of patination and some light pitting. The main opens and closes soft, showing some play when open. Sheep’s foot and spay are tight and snappy. The handle covers show some shrinkage, but no cracking or deep scratches. Please see item photos and condition report. We buy, use and collect knives and tools, and have been burned by sellers who say something like, "Great item! See photos for description." Then find a major flaw or damage that wasn't mentioned or photographed. We examine everything we sell try to accurately describe its condition. If we describe a tool or knife as a good or excellent user, we think it meets or exceeds acceptability for it's intended use. The key words are, intended use. Buyers should understand the tolerance levels of tools they are using. The terms acceptable or light duty user means a tool has heavy wear affecting its usability. A pocket knife labeled thusly might be good for opening packages, but not general use in the shop or on the farm. We also try to point out any flaws, repairs or maintenance needed, like a cutting edge needing to be sharpened or with nicks. We do not think items labeled Parts, Repair or Study are usable. They may have salvageable parts, be a tool with broken or missing parts, or something we think may be of interest to other collectors. A rare pocket knife with broken blades may fall into this category. Or we may label it as collectable. This said, all item descriptions are based upon visual inspection only.
