Description: Set of 5 Fostoria American / Colony Whitehall Footed Juice Glasses 4 ½” Your Purchase Helps Support A Disabled Army Veteran Injured In Iraq For your consideration is this beautiful set of 5 footed juice glasses by Colony glass in the Whitehall line. They are similar to the popular and vintage Fostoria Glass Company, in the American Clear pattern (Stem 2056). This pattern was made by Fostoria in Moundsville, Virginia and the company made pieces from 1915 to 1986. They measure approximately 4 ½” tall, 3 ¼” diameter at the top and 2 ¾” in diameter at the base. They are in excellent pre-owned condition. No chips or cracks. One of their most well-known designs was the American #2056 pattern, which was the most successful pattern in the history of glass making. With a starburst base, this design utilizes stacked three-dimensional hexagons or cubes for a modernist look that was popular from its release in 1915 until 1986 when the company shuttered its doors. This pattern continues to be one of the most popular and sought after even to this day due to its intricate pattern, sturdy design, and easy versatility. At one time Fostoria was the largest maker of handmade glassware in the United States, employing nearly 1000 people. The AMERICAN pattern, introduced in 1915, is still being produced by Lancaster Colony (who bought the Fostoria company in 1983), making it the most successful pattern in the history of glass making. A number of Whitehall molds were merged with original fostoria american molds. The Whitehall American line comes in a range of various colors. For almost a century — from 1887 to 1986 — the Fostoria Glass Company made some of America’s most popular and highly-collectible glassware.Initially, their factories produced pressed glass and lead crystal, but they later added colored glassware. Some of their work became widely known as carnival glass, milk glass, and Depression glass. The company closed its West Virginia plant in early 1986, largely because of declining sales to international competition. Fostoria president Kenneth Dalzell said at the time, “Foreign imports have played a role [in the decision to close], very much so.”But now, we can still look back on nearly 100 years of beautiful vintage Fostoria glass — from candelabra to stemware, in clear crystal or one of many colorful hues — that people have been using and collecting for generations.
