Description: **Easel not included** These copper enameled dishes were created by Serge Nekrassoff sometime between 1946 and 1979. The artist applied the enamel in layers to add richness and depth to the design. He started by applying a wide border of gold enamel around the upturned sides of the dish. Next, he applied a ring of brown enamel overlapping the edge of the gold and extending onto the natural copper of the dish's bottom. Then, he dappled various shades of green enamel over the gold and, in places, into the brown enamel. Finally, he dappled white enamel over the natural copper center of the dish and into the brown and green areas. I love how the colors of the enamel harmonize with the underlying copper color to give warmth and a feeling of nature to the design. Serge Nekrassoff was born in Russia in 1895 and served in the Imperial Guard. During the Russian Revolution, he was forced to flee Russia. As he traveled the world, he became skilled in metalworking. He came to the US in 1925 and made a name for himself, creating artistic pewterware. In 1946, due to the tin shortage after WW2, he began working primarily on copper enameling pieces. Many of his pieces featured birds, one reason why this piece is so rare. He retired in 1979. Diameter: 4 3/4" Height: 1/2" All measurements are approximate. These dishes are vintage and have been used. They each have a dent on their edge and the enamel feels rough there, like it is chipped. There are close ups of these areas in the photos. I believe these are part of the design. Price takes these defects into consideration. As you can see in the photos, the dishes still display well. See photos for condition details.
