Description: Later print from the early original 8 x 10 professional contact photograph entitled, “Leo Turner Seed Grower - El Centro, Calif.”. This professional quality image although not identified, was most likely taken by the only resident professional photographer in El Centro at the time, Leo Hetzel. View shows what must be Leo Turner’s seed growing operation with all his farm machinery including tractors, combines, hay rake, and wagons. Leo Hetzel’s elaborate arrangement of all this farm machinery in front of what must be Leo Turner’s seed fields, shows a real staging talent. When Leo Hetzel arrived in El Centro, California in 1913, he found a studio and home in a tin building on the corner of Sixth Street and Broadway. Later, the family moved into a two-story brick building at 126 S. Fifth St. that had a skylight so portrait work could be done with natural light. Hetzel’s advertising motto was “Anything in Photography,” and he covered just about any service possible. He took pictures of property for farmers and surveyors, corpses for the coroner and stores for businessmen. He also shot school photos. His freelance contracts with local businessmen, his portraiture and his film development service, where he developed rolls of film deposited in Imperial Valley drug stores by amateurs, kept him busy and comfortable. He served two consecutive terms as El Centro Chamber of Commerce president from 1928 to 1930. But it was Hetzel’s photographs of the Imperial Valley’s development that left a lasting impression, Hetzel shot pictures of Hoover Dam and All-American Canal being built, as well as the creation of the Plank Road that spanned the dunes to Yuma. Photograph measures 7 x 11 inches and is in excellent condition with no bends, tears, or creases and is very sharp and has strong tones with good contrast and clarity. Back has original negative number. Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS". Thanks. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
