Please note that the book’s binding is in poor condition, in that the spine is missing, the front cover and front free endpaper have entirely separated from the spine, and the rear cover is basically separated from the spine as well (it is hanging on by a single thread). The free leather covers are bumped, spotted, and heavily worn, especially at the edges and corners, and have remnants of pieces of clear tape that at one time must have held them to the spine. The rear cover has a former bookseller’s sticker on the interior. The spine of the book itself is now absent, and the still tightly-bound gathers are visible from the outside. There is some age-darkening to the edges of the page block and three small spots (likely of ink) to the bottom edge of the page block. The interior pages have foxing and uneven toning, and some light chipping, although both the foxing and the uneven toning lessens after the contents and introductory pages. There is a prior owner’s name in faint, faded fountain pen ink on the title page. Please see photographs as to condition. So basically this is a reading copy or perhaps a binding copy (that is, a copy for re-binding) of this early edition of this important historical text. It will be shipped bubble wrapped and boxed.
