Description: This stunning 14" slotted soup tureen greets you right out of the aestheticism movement of the late 19c. An ethos of art for art's sake coupled with a particular interest in eastern influences make this movement and this piece a joy. The registration indicates this pattern was registered in 1879. There are two hairlines and a small chip (bottom and on lip). Both cracks are photographed from the top and bottom so you can see what is happening. There is some staining around the outside of the crack in the lip. The chip is small and located on the slot for the ladle. The piece presents extremely well, and in my estimation is likely useable, albeit I wouldn't pour scalding water in it. Large serving pieces from this period are very hard to come by.
