Description: This listing is for one Sarreguemines Porcelain - Obernai pattern soup plate. The plate is approximately 8¼ inches in diameter. The outside edge of the plate is a scalloped border. Inside the scalloped border are 3 flowered clusters. The name H. Loux appears on the front of the plate. The scene on this plate is that of a woman with 3 geese. From the web: Sarreguemines earthenware is a ceramic production that developed from 1790 to 2007 in the French city of Sarreguemines. During the First World War, Sarreguemines produced the famous patriotic earthenware by the French artist Madeleine Zillhardt, whose work Fluctuat nec mergitur (Paris bombed, swear not to forget) is now on display at the Air and Space Museum to commemorate the Great War. In 1919, after the First World War, the unit was reconstituted under the name of Sarreguemines-Digoin-Vitry-le-François and was administered by the Cazal family. During the Second World War, the earthenware factory was sequestered and its management entrusted to Villeroy & Boch from 1942 to 1945. In 1978, following a takeover bid, the manufacture was bought by the Lunéville-Badonviller-Saint-Clément group. This was the decisive turning point in the history of earthenware in Sarreguemines. The new management abandoned the design of tableware in 1979. On 9 January 2007, the court ordered the liquidation and the end of the activity on 1 February 2007. The Sarreguemines earthenware factory no longer exists. The Lunéville-Saint-Clément manufacture continues to produce some of the models that made it famous, including the famous "Obernai" service decorated by Henri Loux. There is a small surface chip near the plate edge (see photo), otherwise I found no other chips, cracks, or chigger bites. There is crazing due to the age. The plastic display holder is not included in the listing. This plate is being stored in a smoke-free home. I will carefully pack it up to protect it in transit. I ship to any US Zip Code, including APO/FPO and I combine shipping whenever possible.
