Description: Japanese Hansatsu Banknote includes: Certificate of Authenticityfrom Worldwide Treasure Bureau purchased at auction as isselling as is Disclaimer: I can't personally verify the Certificate of Authenticitysince I bought it at auction However, online research identifies this particular note. Interesting history of Hansatsu Banknotes: Between 1603-1868 paper currency issued and used were called Hansatsu.During that time Japan was ruled by fierce Shogun warlords.Paper money was issued when shortages of coins arised. These tall, thin notes were handprinted on heavy paper with woodblocks by local artisansHansatsu had face value in silver coinage but gold and copper scrip also circulated. Counterfeiting was discouraged by severe punishment and elaborate techniques such as watermarking and hidden characters. Included is a print out and description of this banknote that I found online. Condition: SEE PHOTOS. Banknote has faded and some soil from use. One end of banknote has clear tape on edge. From clean, smoke-free environment. Please email with questions prior to bid or purchase.
