Hand carved horn or bone sailboat with great black, white and gray variations. 7 1/2" long bow to stern x 2 1/4" in depth x 7 1/4" high. Very Good Vintage Condition, with Excellent Patina. Rochus Heinisch, a German immigrant, started producing surgical instruments and later expanded to tailoring and sailmaking cutlery in Newark, New Jersey, around 1835. He was the first in the United States to patent steel tailoring scissors, and these specific oversized shears are marked with his patent, dating them to around 1859.
