Description: These Sabal palmetto x causiarum seeds come from the palms in the photos, specifically the palm in the main photo. Some people might recognize them. They are massive palms with massive crowns, and quite distinguishable from either S. palmetto or S. causiarum. They are very fast growers. These particular palms have been in this location for several decades, and are probably the parent palms of any Sabal palmetto x causiarum palms that are growing anywhere else. They are the originals, and nobody knows the exact origin. The palms in my pictures are growing in Gainesville, Florida, which is rated as a USDA zone 9a. We see significant freezes here on a yearly basis into the low 20sF and possibly even below 20F on occasion. Germination of Sabal seeds is pretty easy. Give it some bottom heat and keep the seed-starting media (I use a 50/50 mix of peat moss/perlite) moist, but not sopping wet.
