S Chester Danforth 'BYRD'S SOUTH POLE FLAGSHIP' Etching INSCRIBED to the ADMIRAL

Description: ORIGINAL S CHESTER DANFORTH (1896-1959) 'BYRD'S SOUTHPOLE FLAGSHIP' ETCHING INSCRIBED 'BEST WISHES TO ADMIRAL BYRD' AND TWICE SIGNED BY THE ARTIST This is a great piece. I recently bought a collection of prints from the collection of Seymour Stein who was the founder of Sire Records. Stein collected incredible advertising, photography, and artwork. What lead me to this piece was the besides being a wonderful rare etching, it is inscribed by the artist to Admiral Byrd and that leads me to believe that this piece was actually in the collection of Admiral Byrd. This is a wonderful original etching by well listed Chicago artist S Chester Danforth. His works are in museums and institutions throughout the country. This one seems particularly rare as I have only found a few other examples. A wonderful view of Admiral Byrd's hip he took to the South Pole docked under the Chicago skyline. Image measues 11 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches on complete original sheet measuring 16 3/4 x 10 7/8 inches. Signed and titled and inscribed to Byrd in pencil below the image. A crisp dark impression. Faint matte box around the outside of the image. Page shows that it had been exposed to some moisture as the page shows some rippling and also some staining in the right margin. A new matte and frame would really make this a beautiful addition to any collection. A great chance to own a piece that was most likely directly from the collection of Admiral Byrd!
