Description: Royal Agricultural Society of Ireland Silver Medallion These agricultural medallions were produced for agricultural prizes and were awarded in the mid to late 1800’s. Various countries had similar societies and awards. This particular Ireland medallion was awarded in 1868. On the front of the medallion is the Central Celtic harp with crown and inscribed “ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF IRELAND ** INTITUTED/ A.D. 1841”. On the reverse it reads “UPPER OSSORY FARMING SOCIETY 1868". In the center it reads "SAM TALBOT for the best agricultural breed mare 2nd class". The medallion is Sterling silver 1.95 ozt. They are wonderful and personal and highlight society before the major industrialization of the world. This medallion comes with its original case.
