Description: Colonial Hotel in Springfield, Missouri, on US Hwy. 66 Here is a flat (staple and matches removed) unstruck front strike matchcover from the Colonial Hotel (AAA approved it says on the inside) on City Route US 66 and 60 and 166 (see scan of inside) in Springfield, MO. The Colonial Hotel was built in 1907 and was the first steel-framed building in Springfield. Jack Rittenhouse, in his 1946 A Guidebook to Highway 66, mentioned the Colonial Hotel on page 32. The Colonial was razed in 1997 at the age of 90 years old. The illustration on the matchcover is custom artwork that actually shows the basic design of the Colonial Hotel. There is no tape, glue or handwriting on the inside of this matchcover. This matchcover is in excellent unstruck condition.
