Description: Nishida Roshu I was one of the most highly regarded Shakuhachi makers in Japan. The renowned maker Tamai Chikusen learned his craft from Nishida Roshu I. He is sometimes referred to as Roshu the elder to distinguish his sought-after shakuhachi's from those made by his son Nishida Roshu II. This is a fine example of his work, in incredible condition. It feels very nice in the hands and plays with a lovely mellow tone. I believe the middle joint is solid silver. The slight "staining" around the finger holes is actually a very good sign - the shakuhachi was well loved and played by its previous owner. Finger holes measure 11mm, bamboo tube diameter is 34.4mm, top opening diameter is 20.8mm, bell end opening diameter is 16mm and weight is 409g. The shakuhachi will be well packed and sent via USPS Priority Mail.
