Description: Rosenthal Creamer & Sugar w/Lid Maria Mold #430 Multi-Color Florals w/Gold 1943 Exquisite Decorative DEMITASSE ROSENTHAL Set of CREAMER & SUGAR w/LID, Multi-color FLORALS w/Green LEAVES, circa 1943 from Selb, Bavaria, Germany, on the MARIA Mold Smooth Rim w/EMBOSSING on FEET, Both are 8 Sided DESCRIPTION: These feature a large spray of multi-colored florals with green leaves on the outside of each and smaller complimentary floral sprays. Both have embossing with gold trim on the rim and the wider, bolder gold band beneath that. The feet have the same pattern. The outside of the handles is painted a solid gold. CONDITION: The condition of this set is superb for the sugar bowl and lid. The creamer has significant wear on the gold on the handle, the foot, and the spout. We can find no defects or other damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see the gold wear on the creamer. DIMENSIONS: The sugar with lid has a diameter of 4 1/4" and a height of 4 1/8". Handle to handle, the measurement is 5 3/4". The creamer has a diameter of 2 1/2" and a height of 4". Handle to spout, the measurement is 4 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. In his book entitled Rosenthal, Dieter Struss dates these pieces as used in 1943 time period by date ciphers containing Germany instead of Bavaria. This set is on the Continental Maria mold #430 which was introduced in 1914. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
