Overall, good condition with a few edge dings or imperfections.Ronald Ellwin Evans Jr., born on November 10, 1933, in St. Francis, Kansas, was a notable American astronaut and one of the 24 astronauts who flew to the Moon. Evans graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1956. He later received a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1964. Evans began his career as a naval aviator, flying combat missions during the Vietnam War. He was selected as an astronaut by NASA in April 1966 as part of the fifth group of astronauts. His first and only spaceflight was as the Command Module Pilot of Apollo 17, the last manned mission to the Moon, which launched on December 7, 1972. During this mission, Evans orbited the Moon while his crewmates, Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt, explored the lunar surface. One of the notable aspects of Evans' mission was his extensive solo time in lunar orbit, where he conducted experiments and photographed the Moon. He spent a record 147 hours and 48 minutes in lunar orbit, the longest any human has spent orbiting the Moon alone. On the return journey to Earth, Evans performed a spacewalk lasting one hour and six minutes to retrieve film canisters from the exterior of the command module. After retiring from NASA in 1977, Evans pursued a career in private industry, working for various aerospace companies. He also remained involved in promoting space exploration and education. Evans passed away on April 7, 1990, leaving behind a legacy as one of the key figures in the Apollo program and human space exploration. His contributions to spaceflight and his role in the historic Apollo 17 mission are remembered as significant achievements in the history of space exploration.
