Description: Halogen table lamp with brass columns topped with chrome capitals. The base and lampholder are in a finely textured matte black finish. The lamp design is a classic from the 1980’s. Designed by Robert Sonneman for George Kovacs, it’s inspired by the 1983 ‘Pausania’ light by Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis group. The lamp features stylized postmodern neoclassical columns and retains the classical proportions of Greek and Roman temples. Robert Sonneman has made a career out of pushing the technological envelope for lighting and for making it accessible to the design-minded public. In the 1980’s, halogen lighting technology had advanced to the point where inexpensive, small bulbs with powerful brightness were a practical choice for the consumer market. Robert Sonneman utilized the bulb’s small size by hiding it within the lampholder and letting its brilliance refract through the glass cantilevered “wings”. The lamp has a adjustable dimmer switch for variable brightness. The lamp isvery good condition with some very light scratches on the brass columns consistent with age and use. It is in good working electrical order and comes with a 60-watt halogen bulb. 15 1/4” tall, 17 1/2“ wide, 4 ¾” deep. Base dimensions 9 ½” wide x 4” deep.
