Description: Beautiful, colorful miniature retablo Nativity set hand-made and hand-painted in Peru. The retablo consists of a small wooden shadow box containing hand-painted clay figures of the Infant Jesus, Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, the three wise men/kings, a shepherd, an ox, a donkey, a lamb, and a duck. The retablo has two doors with leather hinge straps and is decorated with a hand-painted floral design. The retablo measures approximately 3 7/8” wide, 5 1/2" high, and 1 1/2" deep. There is a small sticker on the back of the retablo that reads, “Allpa” and “Hand made in Peru.” The age of the retablo is unknown. Estate sale find. A beautiful and inspirational piece of Latin American Catholic folk art! The miniature retablo appears to be in very good used condition with signs of wear and age, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, chips, stray marks, spots, and smudges. There appear to be stains inside the retablo (it's possible they may be from a liberal use of glue. The left door doesn't seem to close fully and the right door doesn't seem to open fully, possibly due to the leather hinge straps (please see photos).
