Description: Perfect for staying cool at Ren fairs, LARP, SCA, & reenactment/historical events. For consideration is a handmade, aqua blue on white, 100% cotton, Medieval woman's courtly surcoat/overdress. Surcoats/over dresses were commonly worn in Medieval times over an underdress or chemise to add variety to the Lady's wardrobe. Large open armholes/sides like this were especially popular in the 10th & 11th century. Side openings should be about hip level. They were everything from dressy to casual, straight to extremely flared, with or without a train. This surcoat has a straight hem and moderate flare. This one is a more regal print & fancy enough for court life. This is a light-weight cotton fabric & has a beautiful swirl design print. The dress is adorned at the large arm hole openings w/ a lovely, white satin tuck/pleat ribbon trim. At the rounded neckline I have used the same trim but applied it over a pleated, white chiffon. All trims are sewn on by hand for a quality look. I have also added a broach-look button to the front center neckline and added a little extension of the trimmings. Easy to snip the threads & remove if you have a lovely broach of your own to use. Underneath is fine if you prefer nothing there. Inside seams are pinked. Hem is straight around but could be shortened in front only to create a train. Bottom hem is machine hemmed ready for wear or hemming. Let me know if you need it machine hemmed to your length at no additional cost. Loose fit of surcoats allows for a range of sizing. This is a basic small to large in sizing but could accommodate some larger sizes so, please see the measurement for a good fit, most importantly the hip measurement. Shown on size small setting.
