The Red Bhut Jolokia Ghost Heat = 1Mill SHU. Awarded world's hottest chili pepper by Guinness World Records in 2007, but shortly lost the record in 2011. Flavor = Very fruity, with mango notes and a tropical overtone. Look = Highly wrinkled 2-3" long and often seen in ghost like shapes. Starts out Green, turns yellow to orange, and ends up Red when ripe. Size = Plants can grow to 4+ feet in height. Uses = Decorative. Conversation starter. Great fresh or dried. Typically used as a spice for curry, chutney, salsa, chili, soup, etc. Popular paired with pork and dried fish. One of the most popular peppers for competitive chili pepper eating. In India this pepper has been used to keep wild elephants at a distance and even used in "chili grenades" as a non-lethal crowd control and anti-terrorism weapon.
