It tracks the lightning activity and if that activity exceeds its internally defined levels, it also lights a Severe Storm alert LED.The P5 monitors the battery level and alerts the user to a low battery state before operation degrades. The user can set the P5 to operate with minimal LED displays, extending battery life. The unit automatically powers off after five hours, but the user can over-ride this to leave it on continuously.The P5 cannot recharge its batteries, it is normally equipped with a battery cassette that holds six AA alkaline batteries resulting in a capacity of 300mAh (20-30 hours of operation.) This kit is equipped with two 900mAH batteries, giving a combined operation life of over 100 hours. The P5 uses a single battery connection, and the "spare" battery is carried in the unit next to the operating battery so it's never lost.The kit includes an external charger for these batteries, and the charger can either use a USB-C power source or the included (US only) wall adapter.
