(I can not authenticate that this is actually the authors signature). The front and back cover has a very colorful picture of Joe on his handcar. Also great colorful pictures throughout the book. If you enjoy reading about the American Railroads, then you sure will enjoy this book. "Hard Traveling: A Portrait of work life in the New Northwest." Condition: Excellent The binding is a bit loose at the very beginning of the bookThe very inside cover page and first page is torn from the binding, has not caused the pages to come apart. The edges of the pages have yellowed a bit from age (the first 4 pages have yellowed more than the others, pages are still crisp. The cover has a bit of wear near the binding.
