Description: This is a Victorian era nautical sailmaker's needle case made to hold large steel needles used to make and repair sails. It is made of turned and painted hard wood. My best guess is mahogany or walnut wood. The length of the case is approximately 8 1/2". It is decorated with ring turning and with three sets of arranged gouged dots. The case has worn black paint surface and an incredible shiny old patina.
