Description: Two authentic 1920's to 1930's White Tower restaurant mugs. Made by STERLING of vitrified China in East Liverpool, Ohio U. S. A. as marked on bottom, as well as "B2". White Tower hamburger restaurants were a fast food restaurant chain that was founded in 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It had similar white, castle-like buildings and menu to the other well known chain still in existence today known as White Castle, of course, which was founded in 1921. During the Great Depression, White Tower hamburgers were sold for merely five cents a piece. The stark white buildings evoked the notion of hygienic cleanliness with workers dressed as nurses and referred to as the "Towerettes". Both mugs are in excellent antique/vintage condition. No chips, cracks or staining and veryminimal evidence of wear. Minute manufacturing imperfections are evident, as in all Restaurant Ware of this era. Please see photos as they are very much a part of my description. Each mug measures approximately 4-1/2 inches from rim to handle, rim is 3-1/2 inches in diameter, and 3-1/4" tall. Thank you for shopping my vintage treasures!
