Description: RARE RUSSIAN HALLMARKED GILDED SILVER & NIELLO VODKA CUP - 1839 This is a stunning, quite rare hallmarked Russian silver Vodka Cup made in the early 19th. Century (1839) - it looks to be made in Moscow, but unfortunately the assay master’s and silversmith’s marks are not well struct and therefore, are indistinct. In good gauge silver it is depicted in a standard Vodka cup form, while the gilded body is decorated with a niello fleur-de-lis design over a stippled punched ground. The above maker's and hall-marks, as well as the 84 zolotnik standard are struck around the centre base. It measures 2 1/4" (6cm) H x 2 1/8" (5.25cm) W approx; and is in very good condition for a piece of its age and type although the base rim has taken a slight knock and is off the circular and there is slight wear consummate with its age to report - see photographs and details. This is a stunning and quite rare piece of period Russian silver that's in great original condition and with a very low start price should get considerable interest from all collectors.
