Description: WOWZER....I am no expert on these and so I am going to be doing some reading up and I will add any information to the listing as I find it. Here on offer is believed to be a super rare pygmy or dwarf Stegodon tooth! There are other "baby" or "young" stegodon teeth but the size of this one points to it being a Pygmy further research will be needed to confirm this.Further research may also help give a better date for this fossil the tooth comes from Serager, central Java Indonesia. note on international postage, I have had to set international postage to cover the larger fossils at £25 (to cover the Americas, Asia ect) but if you wait for an invoice shipping on this item is just £20 tracked (europe £12.50) The tooth measures just 100mm x 50mm x 100 mm At this moment i believe it maybe from the species semedoensis only just discovered in central Java in 2014! there other species from other locations in indonesia there is a chance that if this is not semedoensis it maybe a new discovery for the area. Some of the other species from indonesia are "sompoensis" " Stegodon florensis insularis" They are thought to have become extinct around 840,000 year ago.It was discovered/ dug in central java, indonesia while sand was being excuvated for building works. From what i have read so far scientist believe them to be Early Pliocene to early Pleistocene so upto 5 million years old. As well as pygmy stegodon Pygmy human remains dating to the same age have been discovered in Indonesia, it may well be the case that pygmy stegodons lived alongside these Hobbit sized people named Homo floresiensis Pygmy Stegodon are thought to have evolved on Islands like Java, Indonesia around 5 million years ago before the island was invaded by the larger species. Indonesia is an amazing location with researchers discovering new things all the time, start reading up, the more you read the more amazing you realise these fossils are :) This fossil is very worthy of further study and research.... and may even assist scientific studies on them.
