Description: FERTIGMACHEN"Preparation"Officially authorized German Military Art Card! This very rare, large size original WW2 postcard was published and inscribed by Das Haus der Kunst in Munich, the German government's sole officially authorized national museum (designed by AlbertSpeer), where all art conformed to the former's strict aesthetic and thematic policy. Its aim was to cast Germanic culture, history, geography, heritage and military might in a heroic and mythical light. The original painting was photographed for publication by HDK by Heinrich Hoffman (AH's personal photographer) and inscribed as such on the card. The dramatic image shows 5 stoic young soldiers solemnly preparing for battle. The mood is somber and tense yet somehow tender as one helps another mount his gear. A poignant meditation on the rituals of the battlefield, leaving open the question of what awaits the 5 young men - the laurels of victory or the jaws of death. Mint condition and perfect for framing or display in an album. Rare WW2 item!
