DESCRIPTION This is a RARE, circa 1905, tobacconists box which would have once contained several smaller boxes of 10 cigarettes. ORIENT cigarettes were made by the Monopoly Bureau of the Imperial Government of Japan, from 1905-1914. So this large box would have had 20 boxes of 10 cigarettes in it. Given that the ORIENT cigarette boxes are already scarce there was only ever on of these big boxes for every 20 of the smaller ones. This is made from thick cardboard with metal rivets at the corners. Its in remarkably good condition given its age and obviously hasn't been used for other things over the past 100 years. Its 18cm wide, 16cm tall and 6 cm deep. Something for the serious cigarette packet/box collector and you will wait a long time to see another like this.
