Description: This auction is for a rare copy of Idalia by Ouida. It was published in 1873 by J.B. Lippincott & Co. This copy is a reprint under the "Ouida's Novels" series and is in a beautiful green cover. Ouida claims to have originally written this novel when she was just sixteen years old which would make this her first ever novel. This book is a fascinating piece of history. It was published by Lippincott prior to becoming incorporated in 1878. Lippincott & Co became one of the largest and best known publishers after publishing the first textbook of nursing and the first issue of American Journal of Nursing. This book was originally owned by a Robert S. Trulock of El Reno, OK. In the late 1800's and early 1900's R.S. Trulock owned a home in R.F.D. No. 1 of OKC that was built by the El Reno, Ok Architect C.C. Brown. This address is stamped several times throughout the book in a raised stamp, as well as, in an ink stamp. R.S. Trulock was President and Treasurer of El Reno Ice and Coal Co and the Vice President of the First National Bank of El Reno. In 1901 Mr. Trulock's ice plant provided ice during the registration and drawing of Kiowa and Comanche Country that was held in El Reno. In 1907, he assisted in the incorporating of the Clinton Ice and Compress Company. He signed his name in the front and back and stamped it throughout on covers and contents pages several times. Another fascinating aspect is that this book ended up in The Alicat Book Shop on 287 S. Broadway in Yonkers, N.Y. This store was open from 1935-1974 by owners Oscar and Florenz Baron. The store moved to the Broadway address in 1942. At its apex the store had nearly 250,000 books and was known all over for its selection. The Alicat stamp in the front makes this a unique piece of New York history on top of it already being a unique piece of Oklahoma history. This book is in overall good condition. The binding is holding very well for its age. All pages are inside the book and intact. The pages are yellowing but there's no writing or underlining. The cover is starting to discolor. There is wear along the edges mostly visible at corners and the top and bottom of the spine. The spine cloth has some warping but it is still fully legible. The book is 7 1/2" long and 5" wide. This is a one of a kind book filled with history that will not be found anywhere else! Don't miss out!Cost of Shipping and Handling includes insurance coverage.
