RARE HANDSEWN 1830’S / 40’S SILK COAT W QUILTED CUFFS + EDGING

Description: THIS PIECE WAS FOUND IN A LEGIT CASTLE IN SARDINIA ITALY ALONG WITH OTHER PIECES BEING OFFERED THIS WEEK. DATING TO THE 1830’S TO VERY EARLY 1840’S FASHIONED OF A DARK CHOCOLATE BROWN SILK TAFFETA AND IS FULLY SEWN BY HAND THROUGHOUT. COLLAR, FRONT, BOTTOM EDGE AND THE EDGE OF THE CAP SLEEVES IS FINELY HAND QUILTED IN DIAMONDS. PIPED SEAMS ACROSS THE SHOULDERS WITH A ROUNDED POINT CAPE FALLING IN THE BACK WITH THE REAR WAISTLINE HAVING FINE GATHERING ACROSS WITH LARGE OPEN HOLES FOR THE ARMS WITH THE ARM HOLE IN A BELL STYLE FLARING CUFF WITH THE PIPED SEAMS EXTENDING DOWN TO THE END OF THE ARM HOLE. FULLY BATTED IN THE INTERIOR AND LINED IN POLISHED COTTON. HOOK AND EYES CLOSE THE CENTER FRONT. CONDITION: SOLD AS IT WAS ACQUIRED. THERE IS A SERIES OF FIVE PINHEAD HOLES ON THE CENTER FRONT SIDE OF THE CLOSURE WITH SEVERAL SMALL PIN POINTS OF WEAR TO THE PIPING ATOP THE SHOULDERS. THE REAR CAPE HAS A SCATTERING OF TINY PINHEAD HOLES, MOST MUST BE HUNTED FOR WITH TWO ERASER SIZED HOLES ON THE REAR LEFT BACK. A SPATTERING OF DISCOLORATION IS SEEN ON THE LEFT SLEEVE WITH THE SEAM ON THE SIDE UP TO THE ARM HOLE OPEN FIVE INCHES, SEAM ON THE CENTER REAR OPEN FIVE INCHES AND THE SHOULDER SEAM ON THE RIGHT SIDE OPEN AN INCH.
