Description: One of the highly rated cactus that's currently listed in the CITES restricted for species protection in the nature. The harvesting of this species from the wild is strictly monitored and restricted. We were able to make available some of these very unique collector grade ferocacatus for our privileged rare cactus collector. Quantity is very limited. Ferocactus Chrysacanthus is originally found in Baja California and is only naturally found growing on the Island of Cedros and possibly San Benitos. The commonly known form is fully yellow with hooked spines. What we are offering is a more rare strain of Chrysacanthus, for which the spines appears to be golden orange, with a hue of red near the center core of the spines. It is highly uncommon for this particular strain to be found circulating. Spine appear golden orange under the sun. This cactus requires a relatively high average temperature, low rainfall but relatively high humidity. This is a solitary barrel cactus with dense spines. It is known to be the spinest among the Ferocactus group. The spines are hooked, forming a fully protected shield against intruder who prey on the cactus. Mature specimen can reach 7” in diameter and nearly 6”tall. Though specimen of this size is rarely seen.
