Description: Incredibly rare antique Enma Daio Deity Invocation Prayer wheel. Made of bone, brass, wood and silver beautifully decorated with red coral and turquois gems with conche shell bearing and Enma Daio chained spinner and Invoking mantra scroll inside. Very good condition for over one hundred years old. It’s believed by spinning it will have the same effect as reciting the mantra. Can be spun clockwise as the Sun goes but according to some can be spun counterclockwise for a more wrathful protection. The first prayer wheels were much larger as big as twenty feet and driven by either wind, water or fire to keep prayers and karma flowing and have been used since as early as the fourth century. Some were put on walls to be spun by the passerby. Conception of the prayer wheel is a physical manifestation of the phrase “Turning the wheel of Dharma”, that describes the way Buddha taught. Very good for clairvoyance and meditative mind focus and good karma. Invoking prayer wheels are very rarely for sale and I have not found one like it yet after many years of research. It has Enma Daio deity carved in bone on the handle. According to legend Enma Daio is the ruler of hell and the judge of the dead, protector of children, god of travelers and a caring empathetic benevolent deity who wishes to save mortals from hell and keeps records of all the good one does and the evils for judging. Also he is the only one of the 13 judges of hell that can redeem a soul from hell through the trials they have faced while living and must face during the judgment and it is also believed prayers from family for the dead to Enma Daio and that persons good karma while alive will help save them during the judgment. Making this one most unique as it is for invocation of the deity and not found for sale to often. These are sometimes used to find the location of the resurrected that made it through the trials and as legend goes Enma Daio was the first person to die on earth and that gave him imminent domain over hell with the highest power of the 13 judges there and final word of judgment on mortals.
