RARE Dong Jin Sunset 2-8-0 H8/9 Pennsylvania O scale 2 Rail, Headlight, Runs, C7

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Offering this Sunset Models 2-8-0 H8/9 Pennsylvania O scale 2 Rail brass steam locomotive made by Dong Jin of Korea. This is not to be confused with a similar model made by Samhongsa. This is 1 of only 75 units made and imported by Sunset Models in 1983. I have the original box (see more below). No literature. There are 3 extra parts included (see PIC close-up). The curved part would mound on the top rear of the cab. The other 2 identical looking parts I have seen in online pictures; but, they were not mounted. I do not know where they mount. According to that same online site, missing is a special screwdriver, some screws/bolts, a spring, and possibly an alternate front boiler plate. I obtained the loco at a Collector Estate Auction, so I don’t know its history. It appears to be in EX condition. I call it C7 due primarily to not knowing how to grade brass discoloring (see PICs). I found 1 spot that looks like a re-solder joint (see PIC close-up) that left some darkening and an issue with 1 of the drive wheels. No other apparent flaws. Check the pictures for yourself. Let me know if you find something and I will add it to the listing. The loco shows very light rail time. I tested it on my DC test track (no curves). It ran fairly well with some hesitation at low speed. It seems to happen more often in reverse. One time it stopped completely; but, started right up when switching to forward. It probably just needs some lubrication and more run time. The former owner must have added the headlight illumination. It is not supposed to have a working headlight. He did an EX job (see PIC close-up of wiring). Light works fine. The original box is another issue. Evidently, the box was stored away from the loco and was exposed to water/moisture. The box shows a lot of evidence of discoloring/staining, box separation, and shelf wear. The foam cushioning/padding was also exposed; but, only shows mild staining, no deterioration. In spite of all this, I think the box is still solid enough to safely house this loco. NOTE: There is no evidence that I can see that the moisture affected the loco. The loco is approximately 18-3/4” long x 2-5/8” wide x 3-3/4” high. The engine alone weighs 3 lb. 3 oz. and the tender is 1 lb. 3 oz. With 8 drive wheels it should pull a nice size load on the rails of your layout. I would look great in your collection, also.
