In 1862, Ramon Fernandez Cuervo, an immigrant from northern Spain (Asturias) opened his first jewelry store on Calle de la Amistad in Havana. This business was a precursor to Cuervo y Sobrinos. In 1882, his grandsons - "sobrinos" means "grandsons" - took over the management of the store, contributing to the success of the business, which over the years expanded and then changed location. Three branches were opened in Europe: one in Germany, in Pforzheim, where precious stones were selected; one in France, in Paris, on Rue Mezlay, where jewelry was manufactured; and one in the heart of Switzerland, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where the company founded its own factory and established its headquarters. In Havana, at the beginning of the last century, time had a different rhythm, the so-called "slow time", which represented a way of life, a real philosophy. In addition to its creations, the company distributed and sold other brands of watches and, in the early 1940s, began to customize watch models within the dial.
