Description: Delve into the richness of British literature with a rare copy of "Vicar of Wakefield" by Oliver Goldsmith, published by The Mershon Company in the late 1899. This hardcover edition is a testament to classic storytelling, presenting a vivid portrayal of Dr. Primrose's adventures, complete with antique charm and historical value. Crafted in the English language and hailing from New York, this original print from the 1890s boasts intricate illustrations that bring Goldsmith's narrative to life. This book is in beautiful condition for its age. Very little shelf wear is present. The corners and edges are in exceptional condition. The spine and webbing are strong. The pages have not become brittle with age. Discolorations are present, especially on the outer cover and page edges. This does include some yellowing of pages, but very little in comparison to other prints of the time. It shows that high- quality materials were used in the making of this book. Tiny variations are present in the color of the linen cover. These appear to be the original color of the book. The book is clean, with no writing or ownership labels inside. On page 156 & 157 the side glue on the pages has released, but it has not damaged the webbing and the book is fully intact. Very few of these beautiful books remain and even less in quality condition. See photographs and zoom in to view the fine details. This is a valuable must-have for collectors and enthusiasts of literature, offering a glimpse into the literary artistry of a bygone era.
