Description: RARE CASED 1/6 PLATE AMBROTYPE - "A BUN IN THE OVEN" & SEWING BABY BOOTIES? - I am 99% sure you are viewing a beautiful expectant mother making her forthcoming child a pair of baby booties or another child size garment. Here are a few reasons for assuming this young attractive woman is pregnant. She is of the correct age to be with child. In nearly all the photos you see of women in hoop skirts during this period, they would stand for a photo and yet this woman is captured in a seated position. Her bodice of her own dress is cut high and would lend to hiding the condition of her belly. Finally, the garment she is displaying in her lap is definitely the size meant for a child and not an adult. I happen to love her face and dress and didn't realize that she may have had a bun in the oven until I purchased the image. Good luck to the next caretaker of this wonderful cased sixth plate. CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this case as part of my description. The ambrotype contains gorgeous contrast, tonal range, amazing sharpness and a touch of warm tinting to the young woman's face. Again, the case case contains the original hinge, the working clasp system and a beautiful velvet pillow. Unusual subject matter makes this a rare 19th Century photograph. I will carefully ship this item to the winner by way of USPS Priority Mail. Please feel free to view my other items I have listed in my EBAY STORE!
