Description: "Rare" Carl Romanelli nude cowgirl for Metlox Pottery Poppy Trail Pottery nude cowgirl figurine. This piece is unique as it has the C. Romanelli signature on the underside and not the front of the base where the signature would normally be. The underside is also incised Poppy Trail, 1890, Made in California USA. This piece measures 9-3/4" H x 3-3/4" W x 3" D at base. My grandmother collected pottery, and I believe this may be an original sample piece that she acquired from the studio or some other source. Even with the production flubs this piece is still in excellent vintage condition and the uniqueness of the piece makes it a special item. SEE CONDITION BELOW FOR DETAILS OF THE FLUBS AND UNUSUAL MARKINGS ON THIS PIECE. CONDITION: There is crazing throughout the glaze and many production flubs in the clay and glaze on this piece. The green glaze on the base has bubbled or did not take in several areas on the base. There is a clay split in the top on the front of the base. There is missing glaze and two small clay chips on the front of the base along the edge where it sits on the surface. There is a spot without glossy glaze on the tip of the brown holster on the right side if you are facing the piece. There are handwritten notes in red on the underside that say Without Glycerine and various # marks with letters and numbers that I believe indicate glaze colors or codes.
