And incredible piece to own or give as a special gift to the fluorescent rock collector, who almost certainly does not yet own a rare piece like this! I have THREE of these rare rocks. Only one is pictured, but the other two are similar both in size and patterns. Awesome veining of BLUE and ORANGE sphalerite. Note that the blue appears white in the longwave UV photos, but it is actually more to the bluish scale to my eye. Also, in shortwave, there is an area of blue (Photo #2). This LARGE rock (photographed) weighs ONE POUND AND 8.1 OUNCES (684 g), and measures approximately 3.75 inches x 3.50 inches x 2.00 inches (9.3 cm x 8.7 cm x 5.0 cm). The other two are similar. This comes from Balmat, NY. With golden flakes of Pyrite, they sparkle in the sun! See Photo # 12. I recommend viewing this rock under longwave (best), midwave (similar to, but brighter than shortwave orange) and shortwave (still nice with a powerful flashlight). Photos #4, 5, 7, 9, and 11 are what is seen under a QUALITY 365nm UV Longwave flashlight (this is the best way to view the rock – weak flashlights or fluorescent bulb lamps will disappoint). Photos #1, 2, 3, 6, 8, and 10 are under Shortwave, and show a different set of colors – more to the orange scale - and less brilliant than the recommended 365nm flashlight Longwave display. Midwave is not shown. Typical Blacklight UV lights will NOT display any color. Also, the intensity of the color will vary depending on the strength and type lamp you have.
