Rare Antique Frankenthal Divided Porcelain Dish Leaf & Floral Design 1755-1799

Description: Made in Germany by renowned maker Frankenthal (1755-1799), this multi-color porcelain dish is a unique addition to any collection. Its age and origin add to its value and make it a conversation starter. Whether displayed as a centerpiece or used for serving, this antique dish is sure to impress. This piece is ornately detailed from the sculpted leaves, gold leaf patterns and vibrantly colored floral pattern. The design is well balanced and beautiful. It is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. It is over 200 years old so it does have wear along the gold colored rim and finer edges of the leaves. There is also wear along the bottom. Please see pictures for a better idea on condition. The bottom has several markings as well as a very worn makers mark. The letters CT can be seen underneath what appears to be a crown or eagle. After researching the makers marks, it was clear that this was made by Frankenthal and Included some company info below. It measures 12 inches long by 8 5/8” wide and approximately 4 3/4” high. Weighs just over 2 lbs. I found the following information about Frankenthal porcelain on the internet. Frankenthal (1755-1799) Frankethal was established in 1755 by the Hannong family, who had previously produced Strasbourg faience. While it was one of the most short lived of the German porcelain producers, Frankenthal was defined by high quality dishware and figurines. The French influence is evident in their designs, but their elaborate figurines depicting allegorical scenes appears to have been a German Frankenthal speciality. Frankenthal porcelain marks changed significantly given the short life of manufacturer. Initially a “PH”, it had developed into a lion emblem by 1755. ***The most well recognised mark of Frankenthal is the crown with “CT” beneath it (for Charles Theodor, Prince-elector and Count Palatine of Bavaria, 1724-1799, who owned the factory at the time). Yet for the final few years Frankenthal was operating, the manufacturer was represented by the initials “VRF”. The frequency of changes is likely due to the numerous changes of director.
