(c1750-1770's) c1750's-1770's This Rare and beautiful 18th Century French or English Officer's Rapier Sword with Pierced Steel Hilt and beautiful repousse details around the guard. A Chain hang from the hilt. Blade is lovely showing beautiful etchings going a quarter way up this 29.0 inch Strong Triangular Blade. Hilt and all metal grip are simply stunning with fantastic raised designs that allow you to hold the sword without slippage. The hilt appears to be silver plated but has very dark patina. Possibly makers mark on the blade but we can be certain. These types of Swords were used in the French & Indian War Period and we know for a fact that this particular sword was carried by an Officer during during the America Revolutionary War. Total length : 36.5", Blade length : 29". A RARE SWORD Condition is wonderful for its age with some areas of blackened rust on the blade which would be easily removed. Nothing broken or missing, Very Very slight movement in the guard which is always the case! - Else Fine A Beautiful choice example which had previously been on display in a Private Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts.
