Description: With the ring of 12 nicely formed scallop shells around the rim, this is a very attractive early teapot. Instead of a ceramic handle, this teapot has a copper wire and wooden handle. The potter added gold trim to decorate the teapot. This was painted on over the clear glaze and some of has worn away with use. Measuring 5 ¼” in height to the rim and 7” to the top of the finial on the lid by 8 ½” wide from the tip of the spout, the teapot is in near mint condition. These teapots were left setting on hot wood stoves for hours, this one has a hairline in the glaze that doesn’t go through resulting from the heat buildup. This teapot has no other damage. A similar teapot is shown in “Collector’s Guide to Yellow Ware Book III” on page 31.
