Description: Antique RARE 1856-1883 Monkey Figure Candy Dish, Ernst Bohne & Söhne Porcelain Germany For your consideration is an amazing and scarce figural candy dishIt features a whimsical monkey dressed in Napoleonic era attire with bicorn black hat, holding a basket supported on a tree trunkSmall applied flowers and leaves at the base All hand painted in cobalt blue underglaze, brown tan and black overIt shows great level of artistry, especially on the hands, feet and faceIncised number 537 and a mark on the base, consisting of the letters EBS for Ernst Bohne & Söhne (Ernst Bohne & Sons)Ernst Bohne first started porcelain decoration in 1848, installing a kiln for manufacture of porcelain in 1850 in Rudolstadt, Thuringia. After his death in 1856, his sons Gustav, Karl & David took over the company as Ernst Bohne & Sohne. By 1883 David was left as a sole proprietor.This figurine can be dated to the period between 1856 and 1883 PLEASE SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE FOR MORE PHOTOS! Measurements: Approx. 11.75" tall x 6" x 8.25"Weighs about 3 lbs. 1 oz. Condition: Good overall. Please see photos. The base has been professionally restored back in time, hardy noticeable on top, mostly on the little flowers and leaves around the feet of the monkey, the seams of the restauration are visible on the underside of the base.
